#3 - The past 3 months?

Man it's been a while since my last post. I really want to update my blog more often but I just can't seem to find the time... yeah yeah I know, it's an excuse but really - it's been busy. I've treated this past term's midterms as if they were final exams and I've studied enough that I actually remember everything from my courses even after finals were finished haha... and you know what? it paid off. Marks wise, last term was my best term so far in my university career.

Anyways, enough about school, what else was going on? FlipHop. It's a hiphop dance competition that happens every year at Wonderland on the Philippines culture day. Many teams compete, and they have 2 rounds. The 1st round they pick the top 5 and during 2nd round they pick the winner. The winner receives $1,000 too so it's pretty sweet. This year - there were 13 teams competing and the winner was a team called 'I Rock With The One'. They were on a different league than all other teams and performed really well. That Lycan thing was awesome. However, in my opinion, their style and appearance is very very close to Philippine All Stars.

Our team was called "Identity Crisis" because we didn't know what to call ourselves and we didn't think our style could be labeled as one certain type... plus we really really like the board game too. If you haven't played I highly recommend it. Get it? We were having an "Identity Crisis"? haha =P it's pretty clever and corny if you ask me.

Despite the fact that we didn't make top 5, I really enjoyed performing with them. Sure it was tiring as hell trying to finish up transitions/formations/choreo at 5 in the morning when the competition was at 3pm but it was worth it. We were the first team up so I was kinda worried but the crowd really loved us :) Too bad I forgot/messed up so many times but it was so much fun to perform. Did I mention that it was really fun? lol. I've watched our performance countless times already... All I have to say is I still have LOTS to learn and improve...

What else? Oh yeah, I've moved to a new place to live for the next year. It's called WCRI. I have a much smaller room than Cardill (my old place) but it's way cheaper and closer to campus. DC is the first thing I see what I leave the place haha. On top of that it also helped me realize that I have so much crap that I don't need. I still have lots to unpack and I plan on doing that for the remainder of this week. Thanks goes out to Warren who got me a free desk from kijiji, it's a nice desk too! Totally worth the cost... aka a numb leg.

Am in Brampton for now, just chillin and getting a good rest. Trying to create some thoughts for an event coming up called OUCH...

#2 - Midterms, A Wedding, Korean dramas in real life..

Finally have a break on my midterm season! yay, finished STAT 371 which was quite possibly the easiest exam I've ever written, and BUS 481.. eh it was okay, but heard the prof marks hard so we'll see.. have STAT 334 and Tax left, but after that June is pretty much done - "man, where does my time go?" haha..

Went to Denny & Jennifer's wedding few weeks back with my sister, Congrats to the newly-weds! I've never been to a wedding before so I didn't really know what to expect - but it ended up being pretty good.. beautiful place, amazing food, and fun events, it kinda reminded me of one of those Korean drama episodes but overall the wedding itself was nice.

So why did I say it felt like one of those Korean drama episodes? For one thing the groom's family and my family used to be good friends. Yes. Used To Be. I've not seen the groom nor their family for about 3 years. To be honest I was very surprised we were invited in the first place. There were also a lot of people there that my family used to be close with. I won't get into details about what happened but sometimes things happen that ends up with one person losing respect for another, and that leads to a friend becoming just an "acquaintance".

It was weird because Korean parents tend to assume that their kids don't know what is going on about their relationships with other families. Especially the ones they meet at church. It's always "at the church" with Korean parents.. they meet some people, and then they become friends, and then all of a sudden you have new friends because your parents' new friends have kids as well. So what happens when those parents don't get along very well? all of a sudden your new friends aren't really "friends" anymore. It's really stupid and childish if you think about it. One moment you're like "hey - our parents are friends, so let's be friends!" and then the next it's like "I can't talk to you because our parents aren't friends anymore"... that's something that happens in Korean dramas OFTEN.. maybe not exactly the same but the gist of it.

It's even worse when you have to pretend you have no idea what is going on, and say hello and bow to the "not-so-friends-anymore" parents because they think you don't know and pretend nothing is going on and greets you like they did before.. they don't know that we know, but we also don't know that they know that we know... so it's just this whole fake/pretend bullshit that happens inside a CHURCH. This is one of the reasons why I dislike Korean churches - it's a shame.. Real Shame..

Anyway, I don't even remember what my point is anymore - basically, this shouldn't happen. especially around people who believe in God and go to church.. Like I said, I was very surprised when we were invited to the wedding, but that doesn't mean I didn't want to go or I felt obligated to go because I didn't want their parents to think that our parents didn't let us go.. I attended because I wanted to truly congratulate a person who once treated me as if he was my real older brother, and doing so was my way of thanking him for the past. No matter what the current situation is.

Glad I got that off my chest... this blog stuff is wicked.

#1 - Blogging once again..

It's been a LONG time since I've blogged.. I'm not sure why I stopped it in the first place, but I think my last post was around 3 years ago - actually now that I think about it, I stopped when I started university.. so I thought why not start over? I used to love it, and I'm going to love it again =)

I'm on a double study term now, ended up switchin streams in order to graduate as fast as I can. my next and last co-op term will be in January 2010. I can't believe I'm already past half way and almost done university. man time flies eh? I remember back in highschool, I used to think grade 12 kids were old, and then when I turned grade 12, I used to think 3rd/4th year university kids were old, and now that I'm one of them.. I just feel old >.<

back in first year, I was warned with the old "frosh 15" but I didn't really think much of it - after 3 years of university.. it became "frosh 30" lol.. so I started P90x with my buddy Daniel Santos. He's trying to gain muscle/weight while I'm trying to lose and tone them.. I must admit, after 3 weeks of this intense program I'm really starting to feel a difference. I can actually pull myself up now =P 90th day is on August 8th so we'll see how much I've changed by then ^_^

5:20am.. It's kinda late.. will write again sometime this week! 2 assignments due this week but one of them is STAT 334.. so it's more like 6 assignments.. -_-
